Frequently asked questions
How often must a fire-rated door be inspected and tested?
NFPA 80 requires at minimum an annual inspection and drop test, performed by qualified personnel and documented. Les Industries André offers this annual inspection service as well as maintenance for most brands.
How does a fire-rated door close in case of fire?
Two mechanisms are common: the melting of a fusible link at a given temperature, or a signal from the fire alarm system that triggers automatic closing. Several recent models also offer automatic resetting after a test or activation.
What fire-resistance rating do I need?
The required rating (from ¾ hour to 4 hours) depends on the wall in which the door is installed and the applicable building code. The products we offer are UL/ULC certified and our team helps you choose the model that meets your building’s requirements.
What is the difference between a fire door and a fire-rated counter shutter?
The fire door protects a full-size opening (corridor, dock, plant wall), while the counter shutter protects service openings such as cafeteria counters or service windows. Both close automatically in case of fire.
